The Best Things To Do In Winter

Amazing experiences and special memories aren't just for the summertime. Winter in North Devon is wild and invigorating and we've picked the very best things for you to do during the colder months.

Sen-sea-tinal Coasts

When the rest of the world feels empty and dull, let the coast of North Devon wow you in winter. From rugged cliffs, dramatic grey skies and rippling waters let the coast enchant you. Whether it’s a beach stroll or you can brave a sea dip the air will be fresh, sea-salty and you’re guaranteed to feel rejuvenated.

Winter is the time for indulgence and what better way to do that than a steaming hot chocolate accompanied by a slice of something delicious as you sink into cosy armchairs. Our warm and welcoming RF Lounge & Bar is the perfect spot to sit back and let the day melt away. With our extensive food and drink menu, you’ll find something for everyone.

Garden strolls

North Devon is home to one of the best gardens in the country, from 65 acres at RHS Rosemoor or the intimate space of Marwood Hill Gardens. Whether you’re a keen gardener or looking for some escapism, a peaceful stroll wandering a beautiful garden will definitely relax and rejuvenate

Stunning sunsets

Spectacular sunsets aren’t just for summer, although we don’t see the sun quite as much as in the height of summer, the stunning sunsets remain and are sometimes even more spectacular in the depths of winter. Watch the sun ooze away over the milky sea. Some of our top sunset spots are the pebble ridge at Westward Ho, the dunes Saunton Sands or the silky sands of Croyde.

Lynton & Lynmouth Railway

The picturesque and unique twin villages invite you to explore and discover what makes North Devon & Exmoor so special.

The Cliff Railway connects the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth providing stunning coastal views that will be the highlight of any visit. This working heritage railway is the world's highest and steepest completely water-powered railway. Perfect for laid-back days, the cliff railway is a lovely relaxing and idyllic experience. Plus, you can treat yourselves to tasty ice cream once you reach the top!

Clovelly Village

There's no wonder Clovelly basically spells lovely as this describes it perfectly, this private village boasts being the winners of ‘The most instagrammable village in the UK’ and we can see why. Cobbled streets, quaint cottages, fisherman shops and stunning harbour awaits in this picture-perfect village.
