A guide to the Tour of Britain 2018 in Barnstaple
In case you missed the big news - the Tour of Britain 2018 will be coming to Devon, finishing right here in Barnstaple!
Taking place on 3rd September, the second stage of the 2018 Tour of Britain starts in Cranbrook (East Devon) and finishes in Barnstaple, after a tough and long loop of North Devon!
The Devon stage
The Devon Stage starts in one of England’s newest towns, Cranbrook!
From Tiverton, it’ll then run parallel with the North Devon Link Road until it reaches the outskirts of Barnstaple. In South Molton, history will be made as the Tour of Britain route travels through a building for the first time - the Victorian Pannier Market!
After passing Barnstaple the tour will head through Bratton Fleming to Blackmoor Gate. It’ll go along the western borders of Exmoor National Park and undertake a stunning coastal route from Combe Martin to us here at Saunton.
The riders will see Ilfracombe, Georgeham, Croyde and Woolacombe, within touching distance of the beach. Coming out of Woolacombe, they’ll face Challacombe Hill with its brutal 23% incline!
Then the riders will be able to enjoy the sea views of Saunton beach as they whizz past on their way to Braunton.
Finally, racers will follow the River Taw back to Barnstaple where the finish line awaits in the centre of town.
It's quite a route and one we can only imagine being very challenging, but we wish every rider the best of luck.
