2. Saunton D-Day
15th - 16th June 2019
Saunton D-Day is a two-day celebration of Saunton Sands beach and Braunton Burrows being used as training grounds in 1943/44, ready for D-Day.
The event is an opportunity to take an educational step back in time, enjoying re-enactments, displays of equipment and uniforms and entertainment for all. It’s a free show to the public and promises to be a very special event as it marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
Every year there is a WW2 vehicle convoy, arriving at Saunton beach in all its glory. In the past, there have been Spitflyer flyovers too. In 2019, there will be aircraft landings, major battle displays, an interactive little Normandy, interactive camps and war rooms, plus a history trail.
3. GoldCoast Oceanfest
21st - 23rd June 2019
Held in beautiful Croyde Bay, Oceanfest is a more traditional 3-day music festival, with late-night headliners, daily entertainment and a lively party atmosphere.
The 2019 line up consists of Craig David, Tom Odell, The Feeling, The Cuban Brothers and more.
Oceanfest is big enough to generate a party atmosphere but small enough to not be overwhelming. As an exciting twist, the days are filled with exhilarating surf, action-packed sports, locally sourced food and family‑friendly fun. Sports on the beach, music into the night: if you love to let loose then Oceanfest is for you.
4. Cardboard Boat Regatta and Water Festival
28th July 2019
Now a regular event in Bideford, North Devon, the Cardboard Boat Regatta and Water Festival is as brilliant and crazy as it sounds.
There will be races up the estuary from the North Devon Yacht Club, Bideford Canoe Club, the RNLI, Sea Cadets and more. Expect gig boats, waterskis and steamboats to make an appearance.
The highlight of the day is the cardboard boat races, as boats made by teams, entirely out of cardboard, will be desperately trying not to sink. If tempted, create a cardboard boat and take part yourself.
Back on land, there will be entertainment, stalls, rides, plenty of food outlets, music and dancing to fill the day.
5. South West Bird Man
3rd August 2019
South West Birdman is perfect for those who want to see crazy aviators and would be pilots hurl themselves off Ilfracombe Pier into the waters below, to "fly" the furthest and be crowned champion!
Organised by Ilfracombe Round Table, starting from 11am the event attracts thousands of people to the town and raises money for local worthy causes.
As well as the main 'flying' event, the whole day includes a live music stage with great music, a mixture of food, craft and charity stalls, children's entertainment and much more.
