Contemporary bistro in an amazing historic building
Adjacent to the Royal & Fortescue Hotel, you will find 62 The Bank with its oak panelling and incredible Jacobean ceiling. Despite its archetypically English setting, 62 The Bank creates great flavours from around the globe. With an eclectic evening menu and an awesome range of cocktails, 62 The Bank is always buzzing with atmosphere. A wonderful place to meet up with friends and linger over a coffee, lunch or an evening meal.
The stylish bistro is set in an extraordinary building, originally a merchant’s house over 300 years ago, when Barnstaple was a bustling trading centre. The staggeringly beautiful Jacobean ceiling was completed by members of the school of North Devon Plasterers in 1620. Since 1760, the building has been used by the public – first as the Golden Lion Inn, then the Golden Lion Hotel in the 19th century and then as a High Street bank for nearly forty years in the mid-twentieth century.
Now, this atmospheric building is restored to its former glory and, as in its heyday when it housed the Golden Lion, it is again a place where you can eat, drink and be merry.
